Started copy editing and translating academic material. Projects include an ongoing contract with Comparative and International Education, the official journal of the Comparative and International Education Society of Canada, a publication out of SFU devoted to education in a comparative and international perspective; two tenure dossiers for professors from McEwan University, one of which was retained by the administration as an example for other applicants to follow; as well as academic articles, master's theses, and academic reports.
Worked on the first edit of a fictionalized biographical novel, Come By Here My Lord - Seen in a Mirror Dimly, by author Robert G. Proudfoot. The sweeping coming-of-age story of a young diplomat's son living in Zambia in the 70s.
Started teaching French and some English as a second language at the Language School of the Campus Saint-Jean of the University of Alberta. Delivering language training to public servants, from complete beginners to advanced levels, and consistently bringing students to meet the language requirements of the Public Service Commission of Canada.
Copy edited the original French version and translated Being 2.0 - On Culture, Belonging, and Identity, by Razique Mahroua. A philosophical and autobiographical exploration of biculturalism, religion, culture, and the potentials of transhumanism.
Worked as a ghost writer on two books for same client – one on feminine archetypes, and a biographical anthology of women in business around the world.
Volunteered as lead English to French translator for the subtitles of Occupy Love – a documentary by Velcrow Ripper and Ian McKenzie on Occupy Wall Street, Arab Spring, and Idle No More.
Translated Unagi from French to English – a short story by Dominique Fortier that was published on Words Without Borders.
Started working as a ghostwriter for authors specializing in self-help, inspirational, and entrepreneurial content.
Spent 4 years as the copy editor for Momentum Mag – a cycling magazine with Canada-wide distribution that is now also available online.
Translated a play in one act by author Serge Lamothe – The Prince of Miguasha, which won the CBC Yves-Thériault Prize in 2003.
Provided simultaneous interpretation at the Canadian Bar Association Annual Conference in Vancouver, BC.
Spent 3 years towards a Bachelors of Arts with a major in English and a minor in Modern Languages with a focus on writing, grammar, translation, and literature. Institutions included the Open Learning Agency - offering distance classes from SFU and UBC, among others; and one year of translation at Concordia in Montreal where I earned a 4.0 GPA.
Became an Affiliate Member of STIBC (Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia).
Provided simultaneous interpretation at Doctors Without Borders Canada's AGM in Vancouver, BC.
Volunteered for a year as copy editor for ION Vancouver – a magazine about the local culture scene.
Started translating for people who knew I spoke French, and also did some court interpreting, when I lived in Nelson, BC. Some of the projects included translating the Philosophical Foundation of Taoist Medicine for a local doctor of Chinese Medicine, legal correspondance and legislative material.
